Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Thursday inaugurated members of the Machakos Level 5 Hospital Management Board and challenged the office bearers to move with speed in dealing with the prevailing challenges in the healthcare sector.
The governor singled out the current influx of patients from the neighbouring counties of Makueni, Kitui and Kajiado occasioned by the striking clinicians and nurses, as leading to the overstretching of the major health facilities within Machakos.
Speaking at her office after inaugurating members of the hospital board, Ndeti exuded confidence that healthcare service delivery will look up in coming weeks.
“Machakos Level 5 hospital now has a fully constituted board of management complete with a chief executive officer. I charge them to settle as fast as possible and tackle the prevailing challenges to ensure delivery of quality healthcare services to our people,” Ndeti said.
She said the board, chaired by Bishop Charles Kababu already has a full in-tray to deal with matters of planning, budgeting and developing strategic plans to transform service delivery in the county’s largest referral facility.
“The board will be instrumental in strengthening our efforts to streamline provision of healthcare services amid growing pressure and demand for quality services. It will also take charge of resource mobilisation as well as seek partnerships and funding opportunities to improve operational capacity,” she said.
The governor defended the automation of the county’s hospital revenue system, saying it had contributed to a remarkable growth of hospital revenue from sh 30 million in 2022 to over sh 200 million in the current Financial Year.
Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi commended the governor’s efforts in streamlining the health sector, which was previously plagued by inefficiency.
“Through the leadership of the governor, we have witnessed systematic progress and transformation of the healthcare sector and we are happy that the residents are enjoying the fruits of your leadership,” Mwangangi said.
At the same time, the governor witnessed the swearing-in of the new minister for Water, Environment and Climate Change, Anastasia Wayua Victor.
