

It has been a week characterised by murder, game trophy trading and more murder.
On Monday, security officials arrested two suspects transporting elephant tusks in a village in Gongoni, Magarini, Kilifi county.
The two men were riding on a motorcycle when they were intercepted by Kenya Wildlife Service personnel in the Marikebuni area.
They had concealed a green sack on the motorcycle, officials said. The traffickers were taking the cargo to a potential buyer in the area.
Upon conducting a thorough search, the officials recovered a 10-kilogram ivory tusk with a street value of Sh1 million.
The suspects were arrested and escorted to the station pending arraignment, and the motorcycle and the ivory tusk were kept as evidence.
Officials believe the tusk was recovered from a killed elephant in the area. An investigation is ongoing to get more information on the same.
Body of 21-year-old university student found at City Mortuary
The body of a 21-year-old University of Nairobi student, Mercy Wanjiru Thairu, was found at the City Mortuary after she went missing on Friday following a night out with friends in the city.
Family members and friends who had been searching for her since the weekend traced her body to the morgue where it was established that she had died in a road accident.
Police suspect she was hit by a vehicle near a carwash area along Thika Road after being dropped off by a boda boda rider.
The family is still trying to understand the circumstances that led to her death, as it remains unclear how she ended up on the highway.
Wanjiru, a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, had reportedly blacked out after consuming alcohol during the night out.
Her family suspects that she may have been drugged, as she was the only one in the group who lost consciousness.
Investigations are ongoing as the family seeks answers regarding the events that led to her demise.

The body of the woman aged 45 was found dumped under a culvert along Therone-Kiuma Murram road, just hours after the couple was seen heading home from Therone market while engaging in a heated argument in Ikuua.
It is believed that the suspect who was at the time armed with a panga, turned against his wife in the cover of darkness, inflicting fatal cuts on her neck on Monday, March 24.
After the heinous act, he holed up to evade justice.
The police want to establish the motive of the fatal attack.

Six gunmen shoot dead businessman in Turkana
On Wednesday, six gunmen raided a shopping centre in a village in Lokichar, Turkana county and shot dead one businessman during a robbery mission.
Police said the gang also shot and injured a second victim
The gang raided Lochor-Emoit village while shooting indiscriminately at the shop premises of Apocho Ekidor, whom they hit in the neck and legs, killing him.
The gang had arrived on two motorcycles before embarking on their mission.
During the attack, police said, they robbed the victim of an unknown amount of money.
The second victim sustained hand injuries and was admitted to a hospital in stable condition.
Police officers rushed to the scene and recovered five expended cartridges of 7.62x39mm, but no arrest was made.
Elsewhere, detectives are still hunting for a gang that raided a mini market in Lugulu Market, Busia county and robbed the attendants of Sh300,000.
The gang also attacked other adjacent shops and robbed the attendants of cash and mobile phones in the March 24 drama.
Gunmen kill National Police Reservist in Mandera
Gunmen struck and killed a National
Police Reservist in a raid in the Iressuki area, Elwak, Mandera County.
The attackers believed to be
al Shabaab terrorists clashed with police reservists as they targeted the
residence of the NPR head in charge of the governor’s office, Abidkar Ibrahim.
Local police said the gang escaped after the Monday clash, with some sustaining injuries.
The killing is the latest in a
series of attacks by the militia in the region.
On Sunday morning, a gang attacked and killed six NPR officers in Fafi, Garissa county.
At least six AK-47 rifles,
three magazines, and a Rocket Propelled Grenade are unaccounted for after the
terrorists overran a National Police Reserve camp.
Officials said 16 NPR officers were
at the camp during the attack. Six remain unaccounted for, raising fears they
were abducted.
During the attack, two al Shabaab
militants were killed, and one was injured, police said.
The gang later stopped a car carrying mourners, ordered the occupants out, and loaded the bodies onto the vehicle before driving towards Somalia.
