The National Police Service on Saturday held a thanksgiving ceremony for disciplined officers and their families from Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu counties at St Anthony’s Cathedral Church in Malindi.
The event, graced by Deputy County Commissioner of Malindi David Lusava, as the chief guest, is held annually to honour and recognise the divine role of God in ensuring the safety and security of Disciplined Services and the nation.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by the Bishop in Charge of Disciplined Uniformed Service Chaplaincy, His Lordship Bishop George Muthaka.
He was assisted by chaplains from the disciplined services and local priests, with participation from members of the National Police Service (KPS, APS, and DCI), Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, and National Youth Service.
The ceremony was based on the theme, “God strengthens and keeps me secure” (Psalms 18:32).
Bishop Muthaka thanked the disciplined services for their commitment and selflessness, urging them to trust and honour God and serve the public in humility.
His Lordship expressed that the Church is always ready to collaborate with stakeholders to foster peace, security, and cohesion.
The event also marked the end of Kenya Wildlife Service’s two-year stewardship in coordinating joint pastoral activities, with the mantle being passed to the Kenya Forest Service.
Also in attendance were the Regional Organising Committee, Kilifi County APS Commander Peter Waweru, Kilifi County Criminal Investigations Officer David Siele, Grace Ndirangu from DCI Headquarters, Rodgers Gathuku from the Directorate of Corporate Communication and Principal Chaplain Father Jeremy Mwenda amongst other senior officers.
