Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday made an impromptu visit to Wangige market in Kiambu county.
The unplanned visit comes hours after he complained that security officers tried to block him from addressing roadside rallies in Kajiado and Naivasha.
On Sunday, a heavy contingent of police was deployed in Naivasha on the day Gachagua was attending a church service with his allies.
He later addressed residents and alleged of what he termed as a plan by security agencies to block him from addressing rallies.
On Monday, Gachagua and his allies drove in different directions to avoid the attention of state agencies before converging at Wangige market in Kiambu along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, where they addressed residents.
During the rally, Gachagua called on Mt Kenya region to receive the president but asked them to be cautious about his promises.
"Let the president implement the projects he promised and I want to ask our people to challenge him on those projects," Gachagua said.
Gachagua said that unless the Mt Kenya residents ask the president about his promises, he may ignore those that matter to them most.
"Our people of Mt Kenya, just like other regions, need development from the government and they have a right to demand that," Gachagua said.
Over the last four days, Gachagua has emerged forcefully into the political arena after weeks of a short break, coinciding with Ruto's tour of Mt Kenya region.
However, the government has insisted that Ruto's tour of Mt Kenya is meant for development and not to play politics.
Government-allied MPs have moved to the ground in Mt Kenya to mobilise for the president's visit, with most of them urging locals to turn out in large numbers to welcome Ruto.
On Monday, Embu senator Alexander Mundigi said Mt Kenya is ready to receive the president because of the development projects he is bringing.
''The president will be here because of development projects like water, roads, hospitals and electricity and not to play politics,'' he said.
