Nairobi Water warns residents using illegal water connection

Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited has warned all residents who are using illegal connection.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company called upon all customers using illegal water connections to visit the regional offices and regularise their connection.

It announced that those who do so on or before Wednesday, April 30, 2025, will be exempted from applicable penalties.

“Applicable penalties will be waived for customers who voluntarily regularize their water connections on or before Wednesday, April 30, 2025,” the company said.

“Thereafter, any customer found with an illegal water connection shall be charged and prosecuted, in addition to being compelled to pay any applicable fines and penalties.”

The water company noted that regularising of the water connections will stop continued consumption of unbilled water.

Nairobi Water Company further urged customers to pay their outstanding water bills to avoid service interruption.

One can pay using avenues including +260#, M-Pesa Paybill 444400, NCBA, ABSA, Citi, Cooperative, Equity, Sidian, and Diamond Trust bank.

The company is on a mission to eradicate all illegal water connections within the City and its environs

This is with the objective of enhancing provision of water supply services to the residents of the said areas.

The company is mandated to ensure equitable distribution of water to all customers, however, illegal water connections continue to undermine the principle and pose significant risks to both the quality of our water supply and public health.

The company is also mandated to provide clean water and sewerage services to the residents of Nairobi City County, in a financially sustainable manner and within government regulations.

It also manages water billing, payments and revenue collection for sustainability, and educates the public on responsible water usage and conservation.

Further, the company works with Nairobi County, the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB), and other stakeholders to improve service delivery.
