At least 13 people killed in Kericho-Kaplong road crash

At least 13 people have died and 11 others injured in an accident involving three vehicles along the Kericho-Kaplong road, Bomet County, police have said.

According to police spokesman Michael Muchiri, the accident occurred at around 3.30 pm on Saturday.

The accident involved a lorry, a matatu and a Mazda.

The 11 were seriously injured and admitted at Kaplong and Kapkatet Hospitals.

Police arrived at the accident venue to process the scene and remove the wreckage.

The country has in recent days witnessed a worrying trend of accidents which have left several dead and others nursing injuries.

In the most recent incident, at least 14 people were left nursing serious injuries after a Friday evening accident at Kibarani, Mombasa County.

The 14 individuals are currently receiving treatment and recuperating at the Coast General and Referral Hospital.

The accident involved a Tahmeed Bus that lost control and rammed into a public vehicle.

One of the survivors, Desmond Owinga said he heard a loud voice that got his attention while he was using his phone.

"As we were trying to go out, we saw the driver and several others already thrown out," he said.

In a statement on Saturday, Tahmeed Company said the driver sustained injuries with no fatalities reported in the accident.

In another incident, an accident claimed four lives leaving 19 others with various injuries.

The accident that happened on Wednesday morning involved a matatu that was ferrying students from Ober Boys Boarding School in Homa Bay County.

The matatu, which was en route to Kisumu, collided with a sugarcane truck at Kibwon in Nyakach Subcounty.

The crash resulted in the death of three students, while 19 others sustained various injuries.
