President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki wrapped up the five-day development tour of Mt Kenya region with a firm promise to return to the region as many times as possible to ensure ongoing projects are completed on time.
The leaders have spent the last five days traversing all the nine counties in the region as they inspected multi-billion-shilling projects and launched many more to be completed in the next one year.
On Saturday, the last day of the visit, the President, accompanied by the DP and other leaders, took time for inspection of projects in Nyeri Town and Othaya in Nyeri County and Githunguri and Lari constituencies in Kiambu County.
"I will be back here many times until the work you have assigned me comes to fruition," Ruto said.
"We must ensure that our people benefit from all the projects we are implementing in the region," President assured.
In Nyeri Town constituency, the President inspected the ongoing construction of Ruring'u Affordable houses and Ruring'u Stadium and launched Othaya Town Modern Market which is among 10 new markets under construction in Nyeri County.
In Kiambu, he opened Technical Vocational Education Training Institute and Jitume ICT Lab and inspected Mau Mau Road Lot 1A and Lot 1B in Lari Constituency. He also opened Githunguri Market in Githunguri constituency.
"It's not time to politick. You elected all of us to serve you. You elected the MCA, MP, Governor, Senator and me as President with a specific mandate.
“You will examine all of us in 2027. I will be ready for that political test because I'm preparing for it through actualization of all the promises I have made," President added.
The Head of State and DP Kindiki made a stop in each of the nine counties, including Laikipia, Nyeri, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Embu and Kirinyaga, where they affirmed their commitment in service to the people without discrimination.
They also addressed thousands of enthusiastic wananchi who turned up in large numbers to welcome them to the region.
On top of the President's agenda for the region is completion of stalled roads, hastening the construction of affordable houses, and modern markets to dignify working places for mama mboga and small-scale traders.
Better returns for coffee, tea, miraa and dairy farmers, as well asa reliable water supply, is also a priority for the Ruto Administration.
He also commissioned dozens of last-mile electricity connection projects for all the counties in the region.
The Deputy President said he is up to the task and will keenly follow up on every directive issued by the President during the tour.
Prof. Kindiki promised to return to the region often to ensure he keeps in tab progress of all projects initiated by the government.
"My duty is to work with Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and all government officers and elected leaders to ensure these projects are implemented on time so that the President comes to open complete projects," DP stated.
Prof Kindiki said it is not the time to engage in retrogressive politics but push for more development saying they had learned from late President Mwai Kibaki, who was a native of Nyeri and Kenya's third President.
"Mzee Kibaki taught us to work and serve the people first and then do politics at the right time. Ruto has adopted Kibaki's way of service to the people first then do politics when the time for it comes," DP noted in Othaya, Kibaki's birthplace.
Leaders who accompanied the Head of State thanked him for his resolve to make sure the region enjoys development like the rest of the country, promising to always welcome him with open arms.
