Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned Sunday's attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, terming it a national shame.

In a statement on Sunday night, Kalonzo questioned why anyone would take violence to a place of worship.

“The attack on Second Deputy President Rigathi at Kasarani PCEA Church, Mwiki was a national shame. We call out these militia as workers of inequity and servants of the devil. Why would you commit violence in Church?” Kalonzo wrote.

On Sunday at PCEA Mwiki, chaos briefly erupted when unknown individuals attempted to disrupt a church service attended by the former Deputy President.

The disturbance occurred shortly after Gachagua and his entourage arrived for the Sunday service as the group attempted to storm the church, temporarily compromising the security of congregants.

During the attack, Gachagua was quickly shielded by his security team, who took defensive positions to prevent the intruders from gaining access. Gunshots were also heard.

Despite the tense moments, calm was restored as security forces dispersed the group, allowing the service to continue without further incident.

Speaking after the chaos had cooled down, Gachagua questioned the motive of the attack, saying it should not happen at this age.

"I don't understand why goons were sent to attack us during a church service. I don't want to speak much right now because I have an interview tomorrow, and I have things to say," the former DP said.

Former Deputy President condemned the incident where goons attacked him during a church service, terming it unfortunate.

Gachagua alleged this was part of efforts seeking to ensure he has no freedom of movement and consultations with like-minded people.

"We have seen a concerted effort to curtail our freedom to move around the country and to associate with those who are like-minded. It is unfortunate."

Gachagua was accompanied by, among others, MPs James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Kamande Mwafrika (Roysambu), Amos Mwago (Starehe), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha) and Benjamin Mejjadonk (Embakasi Central).

Also in Gachagua’s entourage were Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, former UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala and MP Mercy Gakuya.
