Parliament directs Railways, Kura to end dispute stalling Likoni Road Over Rail Bridge

The two have until April 15, 2025, to find an amicable solution.

The Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy (PICC) has directed Kenya Railways MD Phillip Mainga and Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) DG Silas Kinoti to resolve the dispute delaying completion of the Road Over Rail Bridge along Likoni Road in industrial area.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing works on Tuesday, the Committee Chair David Pkosing gave Mainga and Kinoti one week to find an amicable solution.

"The Government has invested in this project with an aim of managing traffic congestion in the Industrial Area and the public must get value for money through its immediate completion.

“My committee expects that by Tuesday, April 15, 2025, you will have resolved this matter,” he said.

Pkosing was accompanied by other members of the committee.

The project being implemented by Kura has delayed for the last three years.

The new futuristic design proposed by Kenya Railways surpassed the earlier estimated cost for the construction of the bridge.

Kura director general, Kinoti reiterated the authority’s commitment to ensure the project is fully completed.

The rehabilitation and upgrading of Shreeji Road and Parts of Likoni and Enterprise Road has been ongoing for the last three years.

The entire project length is at least 4.7 Kilometres.

Despite the delay in works, at least 1.6 Kilometres of Likoni Road is 98 per cent complete and another 2.1 Kilometres of Enterprise Road is at 86 per cent completion. Shreeji Road is at 73 per cent completion status.
