Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma is calling for action to be taken against Apostle James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism regarding an incident that occured during a prayer service in his church.
The calls follow the emergence of a video in which the preacher appears to slap a member of his congregation.
"Whoever knows the guy he is assaulting in this video or any of the many worshippers he has ever assaulted should report to the nearest police station or see me immediately for urgent action," Kaluma said.
The MP called the attention of the Registrar of Societies to the incident "before worse happens".
In the undated video that has since gone viral, the preacher is seem walking up to a congregant at the front row before slapping him twice for sleeping during service.
He then tells him to go sit at the back of the church.
“Amka, Kwenda uko nyuma,” he is heard saying.
Nganga then turns to the lady who was seated next to the man and asks why she never woke him up.
“Na wewe kwanini analala hapa na unamuona? (Why was he sleeping and you're here watching?)," the preacher asked.
The woman said she was focused on the preaching and did not notice his neighbour was in slumberland.
The pastor ordered the lady to also go sit at the back.
The woman, however, said that every person should carry their own cross.
“Kila mtu abebe msalaba wake? she said.
Sawa umewachiliwa (Okay, you're free),” Ng’ang’a said as he walked back to the pulpit.
The preacher is then heard saying that he cannot be angry
and fiercely preaching and someone seated at the front of his church is sleeping.
