Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has insisted that the Opposition party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members have joined the government and they are not leaving anytime soon.

In a statement on X, Kaluma said that members of all political parties are in government.

“Members of all political parties in Kenya are in government. Members of @TheODMparty are in government – hatutoki,” he said on his X account.

His remarks come at the backdrop of strife within the party, over some of its members’ support for President William Ruto.

While some ODM luminaries view the partnership as a timely move that helped steady the country, some leaders have criticised the decision as a liability for the outfit, which is plotting to win power in 2027.

Several discontented ODM leaders have now opted to skip functions involving the President.

It’s feared the division could be further exacerbated by the absence of Raila should his bid for the chairperson of the African Union Commission bid be successful.

The party has, however, denied reports of division among some of its top members.

Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has been critical of the Kenya Kwanza administration despite Ruto’s working arrangement with Raila.

He says that there is no working agreement between the ruling UDA and ODM ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He insisted that once a party is unpopular, it does not matter how many other parties they pull together because they will still lose elections.

“I can speak authoritatively, there is no agreement between ODM and UDA about 2027, and I've said on this show, and I will repeat it if you are unpopular, it doesn't matter how many leaders you bring around you, we will lose the election,” Sifuna said on Citizen TV, during a past interview.

ODM leaders appointed to Cabinet have been very vocal with their support for President Ruto.

National Assembly Minority leader Junet Mohamed has also added his voice to this saying that ODM and UDA will form a coalition in 2027.

“Some are saying we should leave. Leave to go where?" he posed.
