Wetangula’s party strengthens base with MCA defections

In a strategic move signalling shifting political loyalties, Ford Kenya has officially welcomed two high-profile Members of the Nandi County Assembly following the dissolution of the Amani National Congress (ANC).

The party received Eliud Kirongo, the Minority Leader from Kapkangani Ward, and Geoffrey Kevolwe, the Minority Whip from Kiptuya Ward, during a formal induction ceremony at the party's Nairobi headquarters.

The defection, facilitated by Kabwareng Ward MCA Hassan Kagoni, marks a significant gain for Ford Kenya as it capitalises on ANC's absorption into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Kirongo and Kevolwe, now serving their third terms, bring considerable grassroots influence and legislative experience to their new political home.

Ford Kenya Secretary General John Chikati hailed the move as a testament to the party's growing appeal.

"Today, we welcome leaders who align with our vision and values," he stated, presenting the MCAs with lifetime membership certificates.

"Their joining amplifies our grassroots network ahead of 2027."

Kagoni, instrumental in brokering the defection, framed the shift as a response to constituent demands.

"Our people sought a stable political home after ANC's merger," he noted, emphasising Ford Kenya's readiness to reclaim its foothold in the Rift Valley.

The new members wasted no time pledging allegiance.

Kirongo attributed his crossover to extensive voter consultations, vowing to mobilise support for Ford Kenya's 2027 campaigns.

Kevolwe echoed the sentiment, describing the party as "a natural fit" for development-focused leadership.

Deputy Party Leader Millicent Abudho reinforced the party's revitalisation agenda, urging intensified recruitment among women, youth, and professionals.

"We're not just preserving our heritage—we're rebuilding for greater impact," she asserted.

Chikati concluded by unveiling a rebranding committee under Kanduyi MP John Makali, tasked with modernising the party's image through nationwide consultations.

"With IEBC reforms pending, we're positioning Ford Kenya as the alternative force," he declared.

The high-profile acquisitions underscore Ford Kenya's calculated push to exploit coalition fractures and reposition itself as a viable option for disaffected ANC loyalists.

As realignments intensify, the party's ability to convert these defections into electoral gains will test its revived ambitions.
