The government has continued to evacuate Kenyans trapped in Sudan following the ongoing conflict.

On Friday, the government evacuated 184 Kenyans in two flights.

Principal Secretary of the state department for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu said the group had a young evacuee of a 12-day-old baby.

She said the team in Nairobi and the Kenyan embassy prayed for the safety of the baby.

"His Mama braved the gruelling journey," she added.

"When they saw this Kenya Airways tail landing in Gondor, emotions ran high. The captain and crew were applauded. I’m told the signature greeting onboard KQ “Mabibi na mabwana” elicited tears."

They were evacuated by shuttle from Khartoum through the Metema border (Ethiopia), into Gondor. They then boarded a flight to Nairobi.

On Thursday, the third batch of evacuees arrived safely in the country.

The 63 evacuees were flown into the country through Gondar, Ethiopia.

The ministry announced that a special multi-agency team was created to facilitate entry, departure, transit, and movement within Kenya of affected staff and dependants.

The first group of Kenyans evacuated from the conflict-torn nation of Sudan jetted into the country on April 25, 2023.
