US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump met at the White House on Wednesday.

The meeting followed Trump’s victory in the 2024 elections where he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to become the country’s 47th President.

During the meeting, Biden reiterated his earlier commitment to ensuring a smooth transition as Trump comes into the White House.

The 46th US President said he will make sure the President-elect gets all he needs to settle well into his new role.

He also welcomed Trump back to the White House.

“And looking forward to having a, like we said, smooth transition, do everything we can to make sure you’re accommodated, what you need.  And we’re going to get a chance to talk about some of that today.  So, welcome back,” Biden said.

Trump on his part appreciated Biden for his commitment to a smooth transition even as he exits the Oval office.

He noted that politics can be tough and not nice but it is a nice world.

“Thank you very much. And politics is tough and many cases, not a very nice world, but it is a nice world today.  And I appreciate it very much, a transition that’s so smooth it’ll be as smooth as it can get. And I very much appreciate that, Joe,” Trump stated.

He won the 2024 elections after getting 312 Electoral College votes against Kamala’s 226. Trump also won the popular vote with over 75 million votes.

Trump has been setting up his team and continues to make key appointments into his second administration.

He has so far named his Chief of Staff and several deputy chiefs of staff, the Secretary of State, several Cabinet Secretaries, attorney general and heads of critical institutions.

More appointments are expected to follow in the coming days.

Trump will officially take charge of the US on January 20, 2025, when he will take oath of office and assume his responsibilities.
