Ukraine leaders are now calling for additional air defence capabilities after Russian missile attacks on Sunday claimed 34 lives.
The attacks also injured at least 117 persons, most of whom Ukrainian authorities say were from church to mark Palm Sunday.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, without sufficient support for Ukraine, Russia will continue dragging the war.
“It’s now the second month that Putin has been ignoring the U.S. proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire. Action is needed to change this situation,” he said.
He insisted that pressure must also be put on Russia to end the war and guarantee security for Ukrainians.
The President also urged the international community not to stay silent while this is ongoing.
“The world must respond firmly. The United States, Europe, and everyone in the world who wants this war and these killings to end. Without pressure on Russia, peace is impossible. Talks have never stopped ballistic missiles and aerial bombs. What’s needed is an attitude toward Russia that a terrorist deserves. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine and helps us defend life,” Zelensky said on Sunday.
Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha said he was updating the international community on the developments in his country.
He said that strength is the only way to bring the war to an end, even as he called on their partners to supply them with additional air defence capabilities.
“For the second month in a row, Russia has refused to accept the US proposal for a full ceasefire, which Ukraine unconditionally accepted on March 11.
“We urge partners to provide Ukraine with additional air defence capabilities and increase pressure on Moscow. Strength is the only language they can understand and the only way to put an end to the horrific terror," Sybiha said.
In the attack on the city of Sumy, two ballistic missiles struck the city, with the second causing the most casualties when it exploded over a street, officials said.
Ukrainian authorities said 20 buildings were damaged, including cafes, shops, and five apartment buildings.
