President William Ruto’s administration is probably the most unrelentingly scrutinised in the continent.

In the era of social media, every statement, every promise, every gesture, every report is pored over with a fine-tooth comb.

On Thursday, top pollsters, Tifa and Infotrak, published polls that must be crystal clear as to the scale of youth discontent.

The Kenya Kwanza team has spent the past week desperately groping for a red herring – from the Russian ruse to the Ford Foundation subterfuge.

The youths have spoken loudly and clearly.

The challenge facing the nation is local. The solutions are within our borders.

President Ruto and the team he will appoint as Cabinet secretaries must open a new chapter in the management of public affairs.

The old templates used by former presidents Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta must be shredded and forgotten.

Destiny has handed Ruto a boundless chance to build Kenya from scratch.

The radical shakeup requires a relook at every root and branch that makes up government.

The Zoomers have demonstrated that business as usual will not wash.

But again, change is not easy. There are powerful individuals at home and abroad who have lived off the fat of the land and will not loosen their grip without a fight.

Ruto must know that the nation is behind him in the struggle for the liberation we so desperately crave.
