In 2022 there could be little dispute over the result of the presidential election in Kenya because Form 34As were released in real time online by the Independent Election and Boundaries Commission.

Venezuela today is rocked by riots because the Electoral Commision has not released the results from each polling station in the presidential election.

The government alleges that the system had been disrupted by a hack from North Macedonia but that then raises the question of how Nicholas Maduro could have been declared the winner.

If Venezuela had used the Kenyan system, then anyone could have totalled the results cast or challenged the results of any polling station. Then there would have been no dispute over the winner (although probably Maduro would have lost).

In Kenya the Gen Z demands have morphed from dropping tax rises to 'Ruto must go'. But Gen Z should instead focus on ensuring that the IEBC continues to post Form 34As online in real time in 2027. Then we will know for certain which presidential candidate will have won.

We must respect the actual results of presidential elections, otherwise democracy will have no meaning.
