Gospel singer Justina Syokau was in an abusive marriage eight years ago.

The 'Twendi Twendi' hitmaker told Word Is she endured verbal and physical abuse for fear of what people would say, considering she is a born again Christian.

"I have been single for eight years. When Covid-19 hit is when being single hit me. I never thought I would ever want to get married again," she said.

The gospel singer's colourful 2012 wedding went south shortly after returning from her honeymoon with whom she thought was her Prince Charming.

"Getting divorced brought me stress because I did not know where to begin. It is God who gave me the strength to move on," she said.

"I stayed because I am born-again, because of what people would have said."

Justina says her ex-husband even slept with a neighbour and was unapologetic.

"He cheated with people who are close to me," she said.

"The women would leave their bra and earrings on our matrimonial bed. When I asked about it, he would tell me to go ask the people who sleep on that bed. There is a day I came out of the house and people were looking at me funny.

"He would disrespect me, take me to ushago and never send money. He would fill people in our home, yet he never provided a dime."

In an interview last year, Syokau said she is looking for a man who is filthy rich and good in bed.

"Some call me saying, ‘I am a farmer in Kisii’. Do you think I can go to Kisii nikalime na hii look yangu?" she asked.

"I am not looking for a poor man. I am looking for a rich man, one who is driving Range Rovers if not flying a chopper.

"I am done with living small. If you are interested and have that among the other qualities I am looking for in a man, then you can start writing your application. Someone in his 40s or 50s.

"Someone who is still sexually fit. Someone whose services are legit. Someone who will support my music career."
