Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has set a new African and State record in Men's 150m at the Atlanta City Games, Georgia, United States of America.
Omanyala clocked a personal best of 14.89 seconds after finishing the race in the third place behind race winner Noah Lyles (14.56) and Erriyon Knighton who finished in the second position in 14.85.
An excited Omayla used his social media pages to express joy after setting a new National and African record.
“150 metres. 1️⃣4️⃣.8️⃣9️⃣ 13th best all time. African Record.
"National Record. Thank you Atlanta for the love. 🙏🙏,” Omanyala shared.
He went ahead to thank his fans across the world for always supporting him whenever he is racing anywhere.
“I am overwhelmed with the love that my Fans shed for me yester night in Atlanta, I am grateful and glad to know that I mean so much to my Fans. Thanks to the Kenyan fans here in ATL too for showing up. Thanks to all my fans around the world too. I hope I get these cheers in every race I run. 🙏🙏🤩🤩,” the African 100m record holder said.
Omanyala broke Namibian Frankie Fredericks' 14.99 mark to achieve a new African record, adding to the 9.77 he set at the 2020 Kip Keino Classic.
During the 1993 World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, Fredricks set the 150m (bend) record by winning the 200m title in a championship record time of 19.85 seconds.
Kenyans have congratulated Omanyala on the new record.
