A new television series bringing together celebrated past actors and dynamic talents of today is set to hit the airwaves.
The brains behind the series hope to bring back the magic of the golden era of Kenyan TV by featuring some of the country’s most iconic actors, many of whom had faded from the public eye.
Plot 52 tells stories that resonate with the Kenyan experience, blending the richness of the past with the innovations of the present.
i-Films Productions, founded by three cinematographers Kevin Majale, Helen Michelle Odhiambo and Stacie Yong has assembled a cast that represents the best of both worlds.
The founders along with Catherine Mucari- a talented singer who was a prominent member of the Kenyan Prisons Choir, are hoping to create a show that not only entertains but also brings a sense of nostalgia and pride to Kenyan audiences.
Actors in Plot 52 include Shikwekwe the Great, a veteran of Kenyan television.
Shiwekwe (real name Nahashon Mukhwaya Nabwayo) made his mark in the early 1990s on KBC’s popular shows like Vitimbi, Mila na Desturi, Kinyonga, and Tausi.
After years away from the limelight, Shikwekwe returns as one of the tenants in Plot 52, ready to remind Kenyans why they fell in love with his unique style of humour and storytelling. Mzee Karatasi is another veteran actor in the new series.
Mzee Karatasi (real name George Kimani), is well-known for his roles in Vioja Mahakamani, Pambazuko, Hila, Tushauriane, Njoro wa Uba, and Vershita.
He takes on the role of the plot's security guard, bringing over four decades of experience in mirroring society's challenges and triumphs through his performances.
His return to the screen is expected to evoke nostalgia while delivering his signature wit and wisdom.
Mzee Gonga is also a mong the cast.
Mzee Gonga (real name Bonventure Jaoko Achungu) began his acting career in 1996, quickly establishing himself in the Kenyan television landscape with memorable roles in shows like Wheel of Fortune and Kinyonga. He also made notable guest appearances in Vitimbi and Vioja Mahakamani.
In Plot 52, he plays the role of a tenant, showcasing his enduring presence and ability to bring characters to life with depth and authenticity.
Mzee Gomongo (real name Armstrong J. Kala) is best known for his role in Vitimbi also makes a return to the screens.
Over the years, he has also appeared in other popular shows like Vioja Mahakamani and Tushauriane.
In Plot 52, Mzee Gomongo plays the intriguing role of a mandating one of the other tenants, adding a layer of humour and charm to the series.
Known for his comedic timing and memorable performances, Mzee Gomongo brings a wealth of experience and a touch of classic humour to Plot 52.
Representing the new generation are Kieran Kirema Ratanya (Popo), Brian Ngaira and Amina Hussein.
Popo is a versatile actor with a string of accolades, including a Kalasha nomination.
His roles in Borderline (Zamaradi), Sue na Johnny (Maisha Magic East), Varshita (Maisha Magic East), and Salem (Maisha Magic Plus) have solidified his place in the industry.
In Plot 52, he plays the landlord’s son and caretaker. Ngaira has eight years of experience in the industry, with appearances in popular shows like Njoro wa Uba (Maisha Magic East), Pepeta (Showmax), Zora (Citizen TV), and Auntie Boss (NTV).
Hussein has already made a name for herself with performances in Click Click Bang (YouTube), Sweet Moyo (YouTube), Becky (Citizen TV), and theatre plays like Irregardless by Artchatterbox and Too Early for Birds.
Mucari told the Star they envision Plot 52 becoming a household name in Kenya, a show that not only entertains but also educates and inspires.
“Our dream is to see the series aired on major broadcasting channels, bringing the stories of Plot 52 to millions of viewers,” she said.
Michelle said funding remains a critical issue but noted that they are actively seeking investors and sponsors who can help them realise their vision.
“We believe that with the right support, Plot 52 has the potential to become one of Kenya’s most beloved television series, creating a legacy that will endure for years to come,” she said.
