Liquid announces upgrade of key Kenya-Uganda fibre route

Liquid Intelligent Technologies has upgraded its 1,300 km fiber route connecting Mombasa to Busia, enhancing digital connectivity between Kenya’s coast and the Ugandan border.

The upgraded route brings multi-terabit capacity and increased resilience, improving regional digital infrastructure.

This expansion supports several East African countries with faster and more reliable internet services.

The improved route complements existing fiber networks and strengthens both land and undersea data traffic, benefiting businesses and consumers in the region.

Liquid Intelligent Technologies chief executive officer, rest of Africa, Adil El Youssefi, said that the expansion is aligned with Liquid’s vision of a digitally connected Africa that leaves no one behind.

"Liquid’s investment also complements the Kenyan government’s digital transformation initiatives, contributing the infrastructure and connectivity needed to develop digital superhighways and digitise services,” said Youssefi.

This infrastructure upgrade is in line with Kenya’s digital transformation goals and supports the government’s efforts to build digital highways and expand access to online services.

Liquid’s new fibre route complements its existing terrestrial fibre routes, rapidly expanding data traffic and further boosting the region’s connectivity capabilities.

According to Youssefi, Liquid’s new fiber route positions the company to meet growing demands from retail, enterprise, and wholesale customers.

Liquid Intelligent Technologies operates over 110,000 km of fiber networks across Africa, driving digital growth and socio-economic development.

The company’s continued investment in infrastructure aims to support innovation and economic progress throughout the continent.

Competition in the country's fiber space has intensified in the recent days the latest being Kenya Pipeline Company onboarding of Syokinet Solutions, an internet service provider (ISP), into its Mombasa-Nairobi fiber optic cable network.

The 1.6 TeraBits Per Second (Tbps) data capacity offers reliable and fast gigabit internet speeds to homes, businesses, and community networks in the two cities.
