Kesogon and Butere shine at school games in kakamega

Butere girls defeated the defending g champions Wiyeta girls in the girl's football final.

Kesongon High School head coach Gilbert Kaisha has promised multiple East Africa champions Kwanthanze that they will shine over them when they meet in Rwanda later this month.

Representing Rift Valley, Kesogon defeated Kwanthanze during Kenya secondary schools Sports Association championships that came to an end on Saturday afternoon in Kakamega County.

Coming from Trans Nzoia county, Kesogon ended the era of Kwanthanze with a 3-1 win during the finals at the Kakamega High School court in 25-19, 15-25, 25-22 and 25-18.

This was the first win in three years that Kwanthanze has been victorious against Kaisha's side in one of the most attended girls' volleyball finals.

“We came here with the purpose of winning the title and we did it in style, we were underdogs to Kwanthanze but we were well prepared,” said Kaisha.

He said that the underdog slogan was intimidating but they took advantage to secure the victory by beating the giants.

“As a school, we also want our name to grow in volleyball. With this achievement, we are praying that we meet at the finals at the Federation of East and Central Africa Schools games and we beat them too to cement our wins,” said Kaisha after the win.

At Bukhungu stadium, Butere girls defeated the defending g champions Wiyeta girls in the girl's football final.

A solitary goal from Judith Okumu from the penalty handed the Western Region title against Rift Valleys in a final match.

This was the first title for Bueter who last won the title nine years ago

Madira Girls with the same score line in the last four while Edgar Manyara's Wiyeta laboured to a 3-1 win on post-match penalties to advance to the finals against a stubborn Dagoretti Mixed.

At the position three play-offs, Madira also from Western were 1-0 winners over Dagoretti Mixed with Walarie Nekesa scoring the military goal.

The three teams, Butere, Wiyeta and Madira have all qualified to play at the East Africa games later this month.

In the boys’ finals, multiple champions St Anthony’s Boys’ Kitale were 2-0 winners over Dagoretti during the finals.
