Malkia Strikers ready to spike their way to Challenger Cup glory, Olympics

Headlining the squad are Trizah Atuka and Edith Wisa the captain and assistant captain respectively.

The Kenya Volleyball Federation has unveiled Malkia Strikers provisional squad and technical bench for the 2024 Challenger Cup in the Philippines and the Olympic Games in Paris.

Headlining the squad are Trizah Atuka and Edith Wisa the captain and assistant captain respectively.

Others are Belinda Barasa, Lorine Chebet, Veronicah Adhiambo, Juliana Namutira, Meldina Sande, Leonida Kasaya, Jemimah Siang'u, Mariam Musa, Esther Mutinda, Immaculate Nekesa, Sharon Chepchumba, Loice Simiyu, Mercy Iminza, Pamela Adhiambo, Agripina Kundu, Lincy Jeruto and Delphine Misoki.

Atuka said: "I've been there for long. I look forward to working together with the technical bench. We are keen to register good results."

The Challenger Cup is set for July 4-7.

The technical prowess behind this formidable squad is led by the

Seasoned coach Japheth Munala headlines the bench alongside Josp Barasa (assistant) and trainer, former international Janet Wanja.

Paul Bitok is the technical director while Ismail Chege is the team manager.

The team reported to Kasarani on Tuesday, following in the footsteps of Lionesses (the national Sevens' women's team), who have been in camp for a week.

The national Sevens men's rugby team, Shujaa, will report to camp on Wednesday.

After the Challenger Cup, Malkia Strikers will move to Miramas for the Team Kenya camp where all squads representing Kenya will train as they acclimatise to European weather. 

Meanwhile, Olympian Gaudencia Makokha headlines the beach volleyball team that commenced residential training camp in Mombasa on Monday.

They are training for the 2024 CAVB Continental Cup-cum-Paris Olympic Games Qualifiers on June 20-23 in Tetouan, Morocco.

Joining Makokha are KCB’s Sharleen Sembei, Kenya Prisons' Yvonne Wavinya and Kenya Pipeline's Naomi Too.

The men’s team features the recently feted best opposite hitter Elphas Makuto and Jairus Kipkosgei of Kenya Prisons.

They are joined by Edward Kibet of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Brian Kelly of General Service Unit (GSU).

Makuto and Kipkosgei were instrumental in Kenya Prisons’ successful defence of the KVF national title over the weekend at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, where they beat GSU 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19).

The team leaves for Morocco on June 18 under coaches Sally Wanja and Ibrahim Oduor.

Other officials are Antonette Litiema (physiotherapist), Wachira Gatuiria (team manager), Neddy Kilimoh (head of delegation) and referee Nzinga Kyalo.
