Nyabondo High School are the new Nyanza Secondary School boys’ volleyball champions.
Nyabondo humbled Sagegi Mixed 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-25) to carry the day at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho.
In the semis, Sagegi beat Gogo Mixed 3-2 in a five-set thriller while Nyabondo overcame Kisii County’s Nyabisia 3-1 in the other semi-final.
In the girls’ category, Nyakongo beat Ogande 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-20) to lift the title.
In the semis, Nyakongo beat last year’s winners Nyakach 3-2 while Ogande saw off Nyakembene by straight sets to reach the finals.
Onjiko School retained the boys’ 3x3 basketball title after a 15-11 win over Sawagongo. Maseno School settled for the third position after beating Ambira 21-16. En route to the final, Onjiko beat Ambira 15-8 while Sawagongo beat Maseno School 20-8.
Ng’iya dethroned Nyakach in 3x3 basketball. Ng’iya overpowered Nyakach 10-6 to lift the title. Tuk Jowi Girls settled for the third position after St Barnabas 10-6.
In the semi-finals, Ngiya Girls beat St Barnabas 14-7 while Nyakach saw off Tuk Jowi 17-15 in a tough semi-final.
In netball, Oyugi Ogango successfully retained their title after drubbing arch-rivals Nyakach Girls 63-25 in the final played at Kisii School. Lambwe settled for the third place after seeing off Nyango 37-27.
In girls’ football, newcomers Alara from Homa Bay County upset fancied Nyakach Girls 2-1 to lift their maiden regional title.
The fate of the boys’ final between Matutu PAG and Koderobara is yet to be determined.
The second semi-final between Matutu PAG and Agoro Sare was on Friday abandoned with Matutu leading 2-0. In the other semi, Koderobara beat Ambira 2-0.
