Vihiga Queens received a major blow as defender Emily Moranga and winger Norah Ann left to join Kenya Police Bullet FC in the ongoing window transfer.
“We have lost two critical players to the current Kenya Women Premier League champions Police Bullets, who are preparing for the Cecafa Women's Challenge Cup scheduled for August 17 to September 1, 2024,” coach Boniface Nyamunyamu confirmed.
The winner of the Cecafa Championships will take part in the Caf Champions League to be held in Cote d’Ivoire.
He said the two play critical roles in the team and they will need to act fast before the next season kicks off.
The two have been recruited amid reports that Police Bullets have parted ways with Chris Kach (striker), Georgina Mulati (defender), Belinda Akinyi (goalkeeper) and Ivy Faith (midfielder).
Apart from the two Vihiga Queens players, the new KWPL champions have also signed striker Bertha Omitta, who plays for Sethu FC in the Indian Women's Premier League, Lorna Nyarinda (Albania) and midfielder Jane Hato from Mathare United.
Kenya Police Bullets' head coach Beldine Odemba had promised to beef up the squad ahead of the Cecafa Championships and the 2024/2025 league season.
"We hope to reinforce our playing unit. This includes getting a new goalkeeper, several defenders, a midfield and at least two attackers,” Odemba was quoted as saying.
“We have started talking to possible reinforcements and some of them may join us any time from now,” she added.
