Mombasa, Seahorses dominate Nairobi County Championships

Mombasa Aquatics emerged the overall winners of the Nairobi County Swimming Association Inter Clubs Championships at the Regis Runda Academy on Sunday.

The team amassed 103 medals—59 in the men’s events and 44 in the women’s—cementing their status as the team to watch this season.

From the youngest swimmers to the seasoned veterans, Mombasa Aquatics demonstrated depth and determination across all categories.

Seahorses Aquatic Centre made waves too, particularly in the women’s division where they bagged 47 medals to finish second.

The team’s consistent performance, driven by talents like Melissa Alala and Alma Ngaruiya, ensured that no race was a foregone conclusion.

Their rivalry with Mombasa Aquatics added an extra layer of excitement to the championships, setting the stage for what could be a season-long duel.

Sailfish Swim Club’s Katja Kimani was among the standout individuals, setting a new county record in the girls' 8-9-gears-old 200 SC Metre IM in 3:07.32.

Her record-breaking swim was one of the many highlights that underscored the level of talent on display and hinted at the exciting future of Kenyan swimming.

Heize Kahindo, the Chairperson of Mombasa Aquatics, praised the event's organisation and was thrilled with the performance of his swimmers.

"This gala was an excellent start to the season. It was well-organised and provided our swimmers with a valuable opportunity to assess their performance," said Kahindo.

"The season is going to be competitive, and I believe the swimmers will get better with more competition."

All eyes now turn to the Kenya Aquatics National Age Group Swimming Championship in Mombasa. The hosts are riding high on their success while the other teams are eager to challenge their dominance
