Kenya Pipeline coach Geoffrey Omondi dreams of winning the Kenya Volleyball Federation league title in his debut season with the six-time African champions.
The former Trailblazers coach, who succeeded Esther Jepkosgei at the start of the season, is relishing the challenge in the competitive league and faces an uphill task in dethroning champions KCB.
Omondi said:
“Pipeline has a very huge following and they always want to be happy. Every match we play, we will be looking to make them happy. My job and responsibility as a coach will be to keep them happy.”
The Oilers began their title charge with a second-place finish in the first leg of the national league, losing 3-2 ( 25-14,25-27,25-22,23-25,18-16 ) to Kenya Prisons at the Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri over the weekend.
“Our target this season is to win the national league. We have a plan and, of course, if you don’t plan early, then things will be difficult. We have a target in place and we are working hard towards it,” Omondi said.
Captain Rose Magoi, who has been instrumental in leading the team through the highs and lows so far, echoed her coach’s ambition and expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to achieve their goals.
She acknowledged the setback of their loss in Nyeri but emphasised the importance of learning from it.
“That match was tough, but we’ve taken valuable lessons from it. We’re not disheartened; instead, we’re more motivated to push harder in the next legs,” she said.
“Our focus remains to win the national title and we know what it takes to get there. Every game is an the support of our fans and the guidance of our coach, I believe we are on the right path.”
She highlighted the importance of teamwork and resilience, noting how the players have rallied together under Omondi’s leadership.
“Coach Omondi has brought a fresh perspective to the team. His emphasis on early planning and discipline has sharpened our focus. We all have a shared goal, and we trust his vision.”
However, she expects a tough season.
“We have a solid squad, and our performance against Kenya Prisons showed that we can compete with the best. The loss has only fuelled our desire to get back on top and we are ready to give it our all in the upcoming matches.”
The captain also called on fans to keep supporting the team, saying their presence in the stands makes a huge difference.
“Pipeline’s fans are our heartbeat. Their energy lifts us.We want to make them proud. We know they expect us to perform well and we’re determined to deliver for them,” she said.
