The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) county-level elections were held on Thursday with the Nick Mwendwa’s allies carrying the day.

Team Blue, led by Doris Petra, took 29 seats in the race for branch chairmen while Team Fresh, allied to Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, garnered 14 counties.

Cleophas Shimanyula, the chairman of Kakamega Homeboyz, was also able to obtain one vote via an ally.

Petra/Mwendwa and Hussein shared control of Nairobi’s key battleground branches with Dickson Doyo winning the chairmanship of the Nairobi East branch and Hussein’s candidate winning in Nairobi West.

Of the six candidates, who breezed through without any opposition, four are on the Petra-Mwendwa axis.

Team Blue candidates, who carried the day include Doyo (Nairobi East), Swaleh Mohammed (Kitui), Peter Karino (Narok), Dickson Kahindi (Kilifi) and Duncan Maganga (Taita Taveta).

Others are Alfred Kirui (Kericho), Eugine Okello (Busia) and Samson Lotian (West Pokot). At a glance, Team Blue claimed victory in the following counties: Bungoma, Kirinyaga, Makueni, Samburu, Tana River, Tharaka Nithi, Narok, Kisii, West Pokot, Kericho, Machakos, Bomet, Kwale, Siaya, Lamu, Tana River, Busia, Uasin Gishu, Nairobi East, Kitui, Embu, Nyeri, Laikipia, Nakuru, Nyamira, Mombasa, Kilifi and Taita Taveta.

Except for a few, such as the chairperson from Mombasa who lost the election and was connected to former FKF General Secretary Barry Otieno, most incumbent FKF county chairmen retained their positions.

The election took place after the High Court on Tuesday overturned conservatory orders issued last Saturday after the Kenya Football Association filed a suit in a Kitui court.

A re-run for the secretary position will be held in Vihiga while Nyandarua will hold repeat elections for the chairperson and secretary.
