Shabana set sights on Continental football after storming FKF cup round of 16

Shabana FC have set their sights on conquering the continent after securing their spot in the round of 16 of the FKF Cup on Sunday.

The glamour boys delivered a commanding performance in the round of 32 of the FKF cup, securing a 5-0 win over Plantech FC at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho.

Brian Michira bagged a hat-trick, with Vincent Nyabuto and new signing Moses Shikanda also finding the back of the net.

The Gusii giants declared their ambition to feature in the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup within the next two years.

Club Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama made the bold proclamation, stating: “According to our strategic plan, we plan to play the CAF Champions League of the CAF Confederations Cup in two years.I believe we have what it takes.”

After the match, Shabana unveiled their long-awaited kit alongside 10 mid-season signings.

The launch event, presided over by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saw the club introduce their striking new kits—red for home fixtures, white for away and a blue neutral strip—all designed by Singapore-based sportswear manufacturer Mafro.

Replica shirts are already on sale, priced at Sh1,800 for adults and Sh1,500 for kids.

Among the high-profile guests in attendance were Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko and SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri.

Karauri reaffirmed SportPesa’s commitment to supporting community clubs, revealing that the three-year sponsorship deal is just the beginning.

Sportspesa will continue to sponsor community teams like Shabana. I will also partner with Kisii Governor to improve Gusii Stadium. This is one of the best facilities in Kenya,” he said.

Odinga boosted the club’s finances with a Sh1 million donation, while Sakaja chipped in Sh500,000.

The event also marked the unveiling of 10 new players, including Mark Oduor (Nakuru Bucks), Frank Mandela (Kibera Black Stars), Moses Oketch (Ebwali Secondary), and Moses Shikanda (Kariobangi Sharks).

Others joining the squad are Duke Nyamweya (Gucha Youth), Duncan Obondi (Gucha Youth), Douglas Mokaya (Bidco United), Oscar Juma (3K FC), and Nehemia Onchiri, who returns after a loan spell at Sam West Black Boots.
