The newly appointed deputy patron of Gor Mahia FC, Eliud Owali, has pledged to elevate the club to a continental powerhouse through effective leadership and strategic development.

Owalo was formally introduced at the Hermosa Garden Hotel in Karen, Nairobi, by club chairman Ambrose Rachier during a luncheon hosted for the club.

He takes over the reins of leadership from former Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti, with his appointment coming just days after the club conducted its elections at Nyayo Stadium.

A lifelong supporter of Gor Mahia FC, Owalo expressed gratitude towards the club's leadership, players, and fans for the opportunity to serve.

"It is with great humility that I accept my appointment as deputy patron. I must thank the club leadership, the management, the players, and the fans for bestowing upon me the privilege of serving this club, which I have associated with since my childhood," Owalo said.

He acknowledged Awiti's significant contributions to the club’s success and expressed his intention to consult him for guidance moving forward.

"Let me acknowledge with gratitude the role that has been played by the patron of the club. Over the years, he has been supporting the club materially and otherwise, depending on unfolding events from time to time," he added.

Owalo lavished praise on his predecessor for working indefatigably to hoist the club to its current status by working closely with the patron, Raila Odinga, and the management led by Rachier.

"Equally, I must appreciate the tireless efforts, passion and dedication that have been exhibited by the outgoing deputy patron, former Homa Bay governor  Cyprian Awiti. As much as he has formerly stepped down from this position, he will remain available for advice and guidance to the club management."

Owalo is committed to transforming Gor Mahia into one of Africa’s top football clubs, focusing on effective change and revitalisation of the club's operations.

He said his primary goal is to bring effective changes with a view to engineering and revitalising the operations of the club to position it as the biggest and most successful football club in Africa.

A key component of his vision includes acquiring land for the construction of a stadium, clubhouse, and additional facilities to support players and staff.

Owalo said he will collaborate with experts for land acquisition and stadium design to ensure a well-planned development process.
