Kenya's track queen Faith Kipyegon, who holds world records in both the 1500m and 5000m, believes she'll set another one at the Monaco Diamond League (DL) on Friday.

The 29-year-old double Olympic champion has vowed to smash Sifan Hassan's four-year-old record of 4:12.33 in the mile this time around.

Kipyegon heads into the race buoyed by her masterclass acts earlier in the year where she stormed the 1500m world record at the Florence Diamond League on June 2 before smashing another one in the 5000m in Paris a week later.

"I had initially planned to run the 1500m race but I have now opted to run the mile in Monaco this Friday," Kipyegon said.

"The good thing is that the points I  get in the race will still be channeled towards what I have already accumulated in the 1500m," Kipyegon said.

Kipyegon will train her sights on lowering her personal best time of 4:16.71 which she set in Boudewijnstadion, Bruxelles in Belgium in 2016.

She must, however, fend off a vicious challenge from a rich field comprising Commonwealth Games 1500m champion Laura Muir of Britain, World Indoor silver medalist Freweyni Hailu and the 2018 African bronze medalist Habitam Alemu.

Kipyegon confirmed she will go for a 1 500m-5 000m double at the world championships in Budapest next month.

She exhibited a sublime form at the national trials, where blazed to the women's 5 000m title, clocking 14:53.90 ahead of Lilian Kasait and Margaret Chelimo.

"The 1500m remains my favourite event but I've been encouraged by my performance in the 5000m. I am ready to take a shot at both the 1500m and 5000m in Budapest," Kipyegon remarked.

"The 5000m is a very tactical race and the competition is very intense. We must prepare very well if we expect to win a gold medal and teamwork will be key to our success in Budapest," she added.

In the 5000m race, Kipyegon will lead a team that comprises Beatrice Chebet, Lilian Kasait, and Margaret Chelimo.

"We have a good team that can deliver a gold medal. We must work hard because our rivals won't make it any easier for us. I hope for the best," Kipyegon said.

Before the national trials at Nyayo Stadium, Kipyegon had already punched a ticket to the World Championship through a wild card. She is also expected to lead a talent-laden team in the 1,500m comprising Nelly Chepchirchir and Edinah Jebitok.

Kipyegon looks to emulate compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot, who won gold in both the 5 000 m and 10 000 m events at the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
