Kenya's pro-boxing poster boy Rayton 'Boom Boom' Okwiri has revealed that his next fight will be against a Malawian opponent in May.

Okwiri, 37, said he would resume training on Wednesday to polish his act ahead of the Malawi fight.

He made the remarks a couple of days after he devoured Tanzania's Meshack 'Smart Boy' Mwankemwa in a high-octane WBF international middleweight title bout at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre on Saturday.

"I took a short break after Saturday's fight and I plan to resume training on Wednesday," Okwiri remarked.

"I have two fights coming up, one is a non-title fight in Malawi while the other is a title bout that will be held in Mauritius later in the year," he added.

The 2018 Rio De Janeiro Olympian said his intentions to win Saturday's bout by knockout proved futile because his opponent displayed great character in the game. Okwiri, 37, had vowed to transform Mwankemwa's face into a cherry pie.

"I'd planned to send him sprawling on the surface in a couple of seconds but he proved tougher than I had anticipated. That's only normal because I was in the ring with a punching bag," Okwiri declared.

Okwiri said he will continue to hone his craft at the Ultra fitness facility located along Kilimani Road in Nairobi under the guidance of seasoned gaffer Daniel Shisia.

“I'm polishing my skills under Silas Okuku Otieno who is taking me through strength and conditioning sessions at the Hill Park gymnasium while David Shisia is helping me to perfect my movement in the ring,” he said.

This was his second title after capturing the World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) Africa middleweight title the previous on September 10, where he defeated Malawi's Chikodi Makawa in a unanimous points victory at Nairobi's Nyayo Stadium Indoor Arena.
