Nairobi City Stars defender Bolton Omwenga has hailed the club's hierarchy— days after being released to join Tanzania Premier League side, Kagera Sugar.
“My biggest thanks go to my family, City boss Jonathan Jackson, NSC staff, technical staff, teammates and the fans. We have had some fantastic times together,” said Omwenga.
He added: “Every single time I stepped out in that shirt, I knew I was playing for the badge and for a very special club. My passion for this club will live on and I know you guys will go on to enjoy more success in the coming seasons. Focus remains.”
“Goodbyes are hard to say. It was great working with each of you—you have truly made a lasting impact on me, and one that has changed me for the better in so many ways. I will miss you all very much.” he concluded.
Omwenga joined Simba wa Nairobi in February 2021 for a season and a half and steered them to a top-ten finish. Out of the 22 games he featured in, Omwenga played the entire minutes in 20 of them and earned a total of 2,000 minutes from all the assignments.
City Stars chief executive officer, Patrick Korir confirmed Omwenga's departure and praised him as a very good servant and very key to "our performance."
"Though we would have wished to keep him for longer, it was also important to allow him take up a good offer,” said club CEO Patrick Korir
Prior to joining City Stars, Omwenga played for Nzoia United, Kariobangi Sharks, KCB and Biashara United. He recently made the cut to the 36-man provisional squad named by Harambee Stars coach Jacob "Ghost" Mulee for the forthcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September.
At Kagera, Omwenga will reunite with coach Francis Baraza whom he played under during his stint at Mwanza-based side Biashara United in the Tanzanian premiership.
Baraza made a timely move to Kagera Sugar mid-last season and rescued the cane millers from relegation.
