The fate of the postponed Nyanza Secondary Schools boys’ football final will be known this week.

Koderobara were set to face Nyamira’s Matutu PAG in the final but the game was postponed following an appeal filed by losing semi-finalists Agoro Sare against Matutu PAG.

“Agoro Sare lodged an appeal against Matutu for allegedly fielding ineligible players. The case was presented to the jury and handed over to the office of the Nyanza Regional Director of Education,” the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Nyanza Region secretary Tom Odhiambo said.

The game between Agoro Sare and Matutu was abandoned in the 75th minute due to crowd trouble. By the time of abandonment, Matutu were leading 2-0 in the match played at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho. Several people including the Matutu coach Joseph Ongoro and players were injured.

“The Ministry of Education will do their investigations and give us the verdict,” said Odhiambo.

Nyakach Girls also lodged an appeal against St. Alfred’s Alara for fielding ineligible players in the final. Debutants Alara won the game 2-1.

Both teams proceeded to the nationals because the Northern Region doesn’t field a team in girls’ football. The national championships will be held at Kisii School and Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho from July 28 to August 4.

Losing semi-finalists St Mary’s Lwak Girls also filed an appeal against Nyakach Girls in a match they lost 7-0.

Elsewhere, Nyakach appealed against Oyugi Ogango in girls’ netball after being thrashed 63-25 in the finals. Nyakach claims Oyugi Ogango fielded ineligible players in the competition.

Maseno School also appealed against Sawagongo after losing 20-18 in the boys’ 3x3 basketball. Maseno settled for the third position after a hard-fought 21-16 win over Ambira High.

Onjiko School, inspired by the competition’s Most Valuable Player Dennis Oduor, retained the 3x3 title after humbling Sawagongo 15-11 in the final.
