Mara Sugar coach George Midenyo says he will not put his charges under pressure despite an impressive start to the 2024/25 FKF Premier League season.
“We are underdogs in the league because this is our debut season. We are still crawling,” said Midenyo.
Speaking ahead of their encounter against Murang’a Seal on Sunday, Midenyo said he is eyeing a positive result.
“I expect the team to fight and give their best and show commitment because I want to see a different Mara Sugar in the game against Murang’a Seals,” said Midenyo.
He said this week, he has been working on the finishing. “We wasted some chances during the game against City Stars and I want things to be different this time,” noted Midenyo.
Mara Sugar won the game 1-0, thanks to Dennis Cheruiyot’s lone strike in the second half.
In the season's opening game, Mara Sugar upset Kakamega Homeboyz 3-0 and succumbed to a 1-0 loss against Bandari in Mombasa.
He said his main target is to maintain their FKF Premier status. “We want to ensure that we get points that will ensure that we maintain our top tier league status then target a top eight finish,” noted the former striker.
Mara are slowly integrating new signings into the team. The club retained most of the players who helped propel them to the top-tier league.
“The new signings are settling well in the team. They have increased competition which is a plus for us,” said Midenyo who was appointed at the beginning of the season.
Midenyo was appointed alongside Benjamin Amukaba, who is the first assistant coach.
He took over from Benedict Wanjala who guided the team to the top-tier league but was demoted because he didn’t have a CAF A license.
