Mombasa County FKF chair-elect Al-Amin Abdallah has called on all football stakeholders to work together to raise the standards of football in the county.

Speaking after being declared winner in a close contest, Abdallah said he would work with anyone ready to improve football for the benefit of Mombasa youth.

“We have taken this seat but it will be for everybody. I always say it will not be about me, but about us as a football fraternity in Mombasa,” the Congo Boys FC chairman said.

He garnered 26 votes against incumbent Lilian Nandudu’s 22.

Mombasa County Football Association secretary Salim Said got eight votes.

60 delegates vote in Mombasa.

Abdallah said his first order of business is to open the FKF doors to all clubs in Mombasa.

“We want to harmonize our football. We want to remove all wrangles and work together as a county,” he said.

At the moment, there are teams in Mombasa allied to the Mombasa County Football Association chaired by Alliy Goshi and those allied to FKF.

One of Abdallah’s campaign messages was to harmonize all the leagues.

He said there is no need for parallel leagues in the county.

“We will also look into infrastructure and try to get more football pitches to be used in the leagues,” he said.

Former referee Steve Mureithi, who clinched the county secretary position, said the hard part is getting down to work for the people of Mombasa, who love football.

“We would like to call on board those we competed against so we can steer this ship together. We need all hands on deck,” Mureithi said.

Lucy Abuna, who clinched the county woman representative position, asked her predecessor Diona Demba to provide her expertise for the benefit of Mombasa lady footballers.

“After these elections, we need to go back to the grassroots and revive women’s teams which had been forgotten in Mombasa,” Abuna said.

Newly elected county vice chair Betty Kerubo, who is an active referee, said Mombasa football clubs will not regret their decision.

She pledged to look into referees’ welfare in Mombasa saying for a long time, they had been neglected.
