Tusker's James Kibande celebrates after scoring against Mathare United

Tusker FC assistant coach George Maina has declared his side ready for a blockbuster clash against AFC Leopards in a high-stakes KPL mid-week encounter set for today ( 4 pm) at the Dandora Stadium.

Tusker heads into the clash in scintillating form, sitting second on the table with 21 points from 11 matches.

Leopards on the other hand are ninth on the log with 15 points.

The Ruaraka-based outfit are on a mission to consolidate their strong form, taking each game as it comes, according to Maina.

“We rested the boys on Sunday after our last match and began preparations for AFC on Monday. We are ready to take them on,” he said.

Reflecting on the Mathare game, Maina expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance despite a spirited second-half effort from their opponents.

“We played a good game and the three points were crucial. We scored early and this gave us a cushion.”

“Mathare came back strong in the second half, creating lots of chances but I am glad the boys were able to handle them accordingly,” he said.

“It’s very healthy for us if the boys keep on scoring. They are working hard in training,” he added.

The assistant coach emphasised the importance of maintaining defensive solidity, starting with today’s encounter against Ingwe.

“Keeping a clean sheet is vital for our confidence as we head into upcoming matches,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards approach the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Kakamega Homeboyz.

AFC Leopards’ Ovella Ochieng gave Ingwe the lead in the 35th minute before Potiphar Odhiam- bo leveled matters in the dying minutes, forcing the two teams to share the spoils.

Prior to that, they had secured a 1-0 victory over Kenya Police courtesy of Kennedy Owino’s 75th-minute strike earlier this month.

Leopards will look to avenge last season’s second-leg defeat to Tusker, where a solitary goal from John Njug- una sealed a 1-0 win for the Brewers after a goal-less first leg.
