Kenyan football giants Gor Mahia face a crucial test as they prepare to face Sofapaka at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, today.
Following a disheartening loss to Tusker, head coach Zedekiah Otieno has expressed unwavering confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back and secure a vital victory.
Otieno is confident with the right approach and a collective effort, Gor can rise to the occasion after their recent defeat.
“This match presents a significant opportunity for Gor Mahia to prove their resilience and reclaim their position as a dominant force in Kenyan football,” Otieno said in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.
Otieno’s belief in his team’s potential is rooted in their history of overcoming adversity.
Gor Mahia has a rich tradition of success, having won numerous league titles and a continental trophy in 1987.
“This experience has instilled in the players a deep sense of determination and a belief in their ability to achieve greatness. While the recent loss to Tusker was painful, it served as a valuable lesson and a catalyst for improvement,” Otieno said.
He believes the Kenyan behemoths will approach the Sofapaka match with renewed focus and a burning desire to prove their worth.
“The match against Sofapaka presents Gor Mahia with a chance to make a statement,” he said.
"A victory would not only boost our morale but also send a strong message to our rivals that we are determined to retain our title,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije has issued a stern warning to his players ahead of their crucial match against Bandari today.
He has cautioned them against complacency, urging them to maintain their focus and intensity despite recent successes.
“It is important to stay grounded and avoid the pitfalls of resting on past achievements,” he said.
Ndayiragije’s concern stems from the potential for complacency to creep in after a string of positive results.
“While a winning streak can boost morale and confidence, it can also lead to a sense of invincibility and a lack of urgency,” he added.
“This can also be detrimental, as opponents will be eager to capitalise on any perceived weakness. Every match presents a new challenge.”
“We must approach each encounter with the same level of dedication and focus, regardless of their previous performance. By maintaining this mindset, Kenya Police can avoid the trap of complacency and continue their winning momentum.”
Elsewhere, AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani has urged his charges to step on the gas pedal and see off KCB at St Sebastian Park.
“The morale has been hit a bit, especially after our loss to Talanta. But
this was all due to a combination of
factors,” he said.
