Newly appointed Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic has emphasised the importance of fostering a winning mentality within the squad.

The arrival of the Croatian signals a renewed hope and a belief that the club can once again ascend to the pinnacle of Kenyan football.

Central to Mihic’s revival plan is his understanding of the game, strategic acumen and ability to inspire players to transcend their limitations.

In his inaugural address, he articulated a vision where each player is not merely a cog in the machine but a vital contributor to a collective goal.

“My coaching philosophy is grounded in a holistic approach to player development and team cohesion. Success in football hinges not only on technical skills but also on the psychological resilience of the players,” Mihic said.

“To achieve this, I intend to implement a rigorous training regimen that prioritises fitness, discipline and tactical awareness.”

The experienced gaffer’s emphasis on physical conditioning is particularly significant, as it lays the foundation for a high-paced and dynamic style of play that can unsettle opponents.

Mihic’s tactical acumen will also play a pivotal role in reshaping Gor Mahia’s identity on the pitch.

“My previous experiences with various clubs have equipped me with a diverse array of strategies that can be tailored to exploit the strengths of Gor Mahia players. By fostering an adaptable system of play, I aim to create a squad that is not only resilient in defence but also potent in attack,” he added.

“This tactical flexibility will be essential in navigating the challenges of the Kenyan Premier League, where opponents may vary drastically in style and approach.”

While Mihic’s vision is ambitious, he acknowledges that the path to success is fraught with challenges.

“The KPL is a highly competitive environment, where clubs are constantly evolving and seeking to gain an edge. To turn our vision into reality, we will need to build a strong foundation that encompasses various facets of the club’s operations,” he said.

“One of the key areas of focus will be the recruitment of talent,” he added.

Mihic’s extensive network within the football community presents an opportunity to identify and attract players who align with his vision.

“By scouting for both established talents and emerging stars, we can cultivate a squad that embodies the spirit of Gor Mahia. Additionally, nurturing homegrown talent from the club’s youth academy will be paramount, as it ensures a steady pipeline of players who understand the club’s ethos and values,” he added.

Gor Mahia boasts 21 Kenyan Premier League titles and one continental.
