Mara Sugar team manager Gilbert Ledama has hailed utility player Steve Otieno’s impact on the team.
Otieno, a new signing from National Super League side, Kisumu All Stars, made an instant impact in their 4-1 win over struggling Talanta FC last weekend by assisting two goals.
“He is a utility player who can play as a left back, winger, number eight and number 10. In our game against Talanta, he played on the left wing and created many chances— two of which were converted,” said Ledama.
He added: “He is a young player and I can assure you he will go far.”
Commenting on midfielder Christopher Raila’s debut, Ledama said: “He didn’t have a bad game. We played him out of position but I think he did well. We expect a lot from him.” Raila signed for the Cane Millers from fellow FKF Premier League side, Shabana to replace Mathias Isagol, who joined KCB.
The club also signed Harun Thomas from the Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA).
Ledama added that the club is in the process of signing three more players.
The FKF Premier League newcomers are in talks with striker Felix Seda and defender Clifford Otieno from National Super League side Nzoia Sugar. They are also targeting another defender Lameck Omondi from NSL side Darajani Gogo.
“We want six signings in the current transfer window to replace players who have left and increase depth in the team because the second leg of the season is very competitive,” noted the TM.
Forward Meshack Karani also departed Mara Sugar to join Ulinzi Stars. The Cane Millers will host on-form Leopards at Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday.
“We expect a tough game because Leopards have been in top form late. During first leg, we drew 1-1 in Nairobi. We are expecting to pick maximum points at home,” he added.
