A total of 30 players have been scouted to form a new football outfit, Webuye West Combine FC.
The players were
picked during a two-day trial exercise at the Webuye Ilala Stadium.
Their first assignment will be
this year’s FKF Cup, which they have entered as a non-league team under veteran
coach Hamisi Mohamed. Mohamed is confident about the squad’s capabilities.
“The prospects are high. This team will be ready
to compete against the big guns in the Football Kenya Federation Cup,” he said.
The initiative, spearheaded by philanthropist
and aspiring Member of Parliament Joseph Waswa, is part of a bold grassroots
football revolution under the JW Foundation.
In January, several Webuye West players were
scouted by Premier League and National Super League clubs during a week-long
football clinic in Nairobi. The trials in Webuye were meticulously structured
to ensure fairness and transparency, giving the young players a chance to
showcase their abilities.
The selection process wasn’t just about finding
skilled players — it was about identifying potential stars who can thrive at
higher levels.
Beyond player selection, the JW Foundation
hosted a coaching clinic, led by Mohamed, to equip local tacticians with
essential skills in talent identification and development.
In a friendly encounter, Webuye West Combined FC
lost 1-0 to FKF Division One side Compel FC. For Waswa, this initiative isn’t
just about football but empowerment, unity and long-term development.
