Tusker head coach Charles Okere reckons they have positioned themselves strategically to tuck away the coveted title after reclaiming the summit of the Kenyan Premier League log on Sunday.
Tusker reclaimed the top spot in the KPL log with a decisive 1-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars, reigniting hopes of winning a historic 12th title.
A goal from Dennis 'Decha' Wanjala in the fifth minute gave the Ruaraka-based brewers the much-needed 1-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Their victory propelled them to the top of the table with 51 points, a two-point cushion over their nearest rivals, Kenya Police.
The latter's unexpected defeat to Ulinzi Stars further solidified Tusker's position, creating a palpable sense of optimism within the Ruaraka-based squad.
The brewers must also look over their shoulders for the threat posed by defending champions Gor Mahia who are four points adrift.
Despite the fierce challenge at the top of the table, Okere said they don't feel any pressure, adding that they will harness the momentum to consolidate their position atop the table.
Reflecting on the season's challenges, the gaffer expressed a sense of relief and determination.
"It's been a tough season going several matches without a win but we are happy we finally managed to secure maximum points at a very critical juncture of the season," Okere said.
"The competition is still fierce and all the top three teams stand an equal chance at the title but we are determined to fight up to the end," he added.
Okere said he noted marked improvement in the performance if his team. "We gave a good account of ourselves in the match and I urge the players to keep up the momentum," Okere said.
In contrast, the Nairobi City Stars faced a disappointing setback. Assistant coach Peter Opiyo lamented the red card issued to Otieno Omondi in the 54th minute, which he believed derailed their game plan.
"We had to go back to the drawing board and restrategise after the red card," Opiyo said.
"The situation was made worse by the early goal we conceded in the match," he added. Opiyo said their immediate goal is to salvage themselves from the chopping board and retain their status in the top tier next season.
Meanwhile, in a parallel narrative, Shabana FC's head coach Peter Okidi celebrated a significant victory against FC Talanta, reinforcing their ambitions for the league title.
With a 3-1 triumph at Gusii Stadium, Shabana showcased their potential and determination to remain in the title race.
Okidi's satisfaction with the team's performance highlights the unpredictable dynamics of the league, where underdogs can rise to challenge the established order.
"It was a brilliant match for us and I was impressed by the way we made good use of the chances we created in the match," Okidi said.
"This is a morale-boosting win that reignites our aspirations for our first ever KPL title," he added.
Talanta head coach Jackline Juma said they lost to a more organised side. In another match, Bidco United broke free from their recent struggles, securing a convincing 2-0 win over Mathare United at Kenyatta Stadium.
