Kenya Lionesses flyhalf Grace Adhiambo says they want to topple champions South Africa at the Africa Cup tournament next year .
The Administration Police recruit said Team Kenya have nothing to fear in playing the champions next year.
"The gap between us is narrowing down. If you look at the first game we played them, we lost 66-0 and a week later, we lost 29-22. We are becoming competitive and we are going all out to win the competition,” said Adhiambo.
Adhiambo played a key role as the Lionesses beat Zambia 36-17 and Uganda 23-3 to win the tournament and gain promotion to Pool 'A', where they face South Africa, Namibia and Cameroon in the New Year.
Lionesses are also keen to qualify for the 2025 World Cup, Adhiambo added.
"I believe we are on the right track. We are building nicely and the girls are determined to go all the way and do the country proud,” added Adhiambo.
The mercurial ace was speaking after being awarded the LG/Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Person of the month of November at the RFUEA Grounds.
For her exemplary performance, Adhiambo took home the New LG Top Freezer worth Sh120,000 powered by a 10-year warranty Smart Inverter compressor.
Adhiambo was delighted with the award, saying: "Its an honour to be selected as the sports personality of the month. To be quite honest, I could not have thought of winning it especially after beating many individual sports athletes in the selection process. It is such a motivation to keep working hard."
LG’s content manager William Kamore lauded Adhiambo for her achievement while also praising the diversity the award portrays across all sports disciplines.
“Since taking up this award as the title sponsor, we have awarded different sports personalities cutting across different sports such as volleyball, tennis, athletics, motorsport and now women’s rugby. This is a clear indication that this award really stands to award excellence as deserved. I am glad that today we have recognised one from rugby,” Kamore said.
