Oilers' Abukuse tops try scorers' chart at Prinsloo Sevens

Abukuse had an outstanding tournament despite his side being eliminated by Strathmore Leos (17-12) in sudden death in the semifinal stage.

Menengai Oilers' Dennis Abukuse emerged the top try scorer at the national series season-ending Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru over the weekend, touching down nine times.

Abukuse had an outstanding tournament despite his side being eliminated by Strathmore Leos (17-12) in sudden death in the semifinal stage.

He was named the third Impact Player award of the season, having topped the Tisini stats tracker.

He had won the Impact Player title at  the Dala and Kabeberi 7s. However, he missed the Driftwood tournament in Mombasa through a thigh injury.

Abukuse was delighted with his contribution.

“I am happy with the award. The team played well in the tournament... getting to the semifinal. We could have done better in our match against Strathmore buts that's the nature of Sevens rugby. It's very competitive," he said.

Amon Wamalwa of Kenya Harlequin emerged the top points scorer with 40 in the men’s category while Impala’s Sheila Chajira was named the Women’s Player of the Final.

Strathmore Leos won the tournament to pocket Sh100,000. Runners-up Nondies took home Sh50,000 while Kabras Sugar finished to bag Sh25,000.

In Division II, Alex Tirimba from Sigalagala was named Player of the Final while JKUAT’s Davis Masinga claimed the top points scorer award (25 points). Elias Owino from Northern Suburbs was crowned the top try scorer for Division II (five).
