Captain Eddie Omondi said the match forms their preparations for the Dubai Sevens veterans category in December.

“We have a fixture with Tritons from the UK sometime next month and we still have the Dubai 7s. We love taking part in it and, hopefully, be competitive,” noted Omondi.

He hopes to have former Kenya Sevens international Lavin Asego fit for the upcoming matches alongside JJ Williams and George Mbaye.

“Lavin and George had injuries but they should be fit for our next assignment,” Omondi said. Œ

The Legends, made of players over 35 years old, beat Uganda 24- 15 at the RFUEA ground and 26-15 in Kampala in the Legends Cup in August to retain the regional title. Œ

The match was key as they look forward to Impala and Dubai.

“It’s not getting any easier. Our age is beginning to show but credit to the team. They have trained hard,” added Omondi.

He said the idea of the Legends team started in 2016 when he approached then Nondies chairman Auka Gacheo to revive the Nondies veterans’ team. Œ

The club side was reborn and graced the 2019 Dubai.

Mwamba and Kenya Harlequins later joined to form Kenya Legends. Œ

They reached the 2022 Dubai Sevens semi-finals and quarterfinals in 2023.

Impala joined later but they hope to rope in more clubs to boost the numbers.

“So far we have good representation from four clubs but we are looking to grow the team further,” he said. Œ

The players in the team include former Kenya Sevens skipper Humphrey Kayange, brother Collins Injera, George Asin, Joel Ng’ang’a, Wilson K’Opondo, Curtis Lilako and, Darwin Mukidza.
