Four-time Kenya Cup champions Kabras have bolstered their squad by signing Mwamba RFC utility back Mike Okello and Catholic Monks’ playmaker Samuel Omollo.

The duo are expected to increase the depth in the side as the Kakamega-based side continues the push to defend both the Kenya and Enterprise Cup titles this season.

The addition of Okello is meant to strengthen the forwards department with Kevin Wekesa and William Mwanji having joined the Kenya Sevens team for the World Seven Series.

Omollo adds to their depth in the play-making positions which includes the likes of Jone Kubu, Eric Cantona, Barry Robinson and Ntabeni Dukisa.

The reigning champions lead the standings with 15 points from three matches and are joint top with Menengai Oilers and KCB but with a stronger points differential.

Kabras’ chairman Edward Esilaba said it’s important to have a squad with depth to challenge on all fronts.

“We want to retain the trophies we won last season and so far, the campaign has got off to a good start. With some of our players in the National Sevens team, we are happy with the squad we have and there is a possibility of signing one more player before the transfer window closes,” Esilaba said.

Assistant coach Max Adaka said they have tweaked their style of play to stay ahead of the chasing pack as the season resumes this Saturday.

“We have a few tricks up our sleeve which you will see very soon. The boys are determined to go all the way although we know the competition will be tougher this year,”  Adaka said.

The sugar millers are seeking to become the third side, since the great Nondies side of the 1970s and 1980s and the KCB side of 2017-2021, to win four Kenya Cup titles in a row.

However, Adaka is more cautious.

“We are taking one game at a time so far. We had three wins but we are yet to hit our peak. We hope to be at our best once we get to the playoffs and finals,” he added.
