Startimes has signed an agreement with Maisha Bora Sacco to provide Sacco members with access to affordable solar energy solutions.

The partnership, aims to facilitate the distribution of solar panels, offering low-interest financing options to help members transition to sustainable energy sources.

Under this initiative, Maisha Bora Sacco members will have access to Startimes' solar energy kits through affordable financing options.

Startimes CEO Carter Luo said that the initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to support environmental conservation by promoting green energy.

"By empowering Sacco members with affordable solar solutions, we can contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future," said Luo.

Maisha Bora CEO Gregory Siro said the financing model is structured to allow Sacco members to pay for the solar kits in manageable installments, making it easier for them to switch to solar energy.

"We recognize the growing demand for solar energy, and through this partnership, we will provide our members with the financial support they need to adopt these innovative solutions," said Siro.

This partnership comes at a time when solar energy is gaining traction in Kenya, driven by rising energy costs and the push for clean energy solutions.

Kenya has seen a significant increase in solar power generation, with production reaching 491.48 million kilowatt-hours in 2023, a 28.1 per cent rise from the previous year.

This surge follows the commissioning of the Alten Kenya Solarfarms plant in Uasin Gishu, signaling the country's growing shift toward renewable energy.
