THE body of a woman buried by the wrong family a week ago was exhumed in Riara Ndumberi Public Cemetery, Kiambu town, on Tuesday.

Margaret Wakangu was reburied yesterday in Ithaaga Village, Kabete.

Her relative Peter Gatuhu told the Star that she died at Kiambu District Hospital on July 4.

On July 6, the family moved the body to Kihara Hospital, which was nearer to the burial site.

But they could not find the body when they wanted to claim it for burial.

Another family had claimed the body and buried it on July 7.

Kiambu Hospital medical superintendent John Kariuki said Wakangu’s body was mistakenly identified as that of Margaret Gichuki.

“The body was wrongly identified by another family and we have sorted out the matter,” he said.

Kariuki said there were two bodies of women the same age and complexion and they shared their first names, which led to the confusion.

Family members accused the hospital of not tagging the two bodies.

Gichuki’s family is planning her burial.
