Police are investigating the death of an elderly couple in a fire in Limuru, Kiambu county on Monday night.

Bodies of Peter Kimani Kuria, 75 and his wife Miriam Muthoni, 65, were recovered in their three-roomed iron sheet house.

Residents said the couple was burnt beyond recognition in the flattened house.

Police said they are conducting investigations to establish if the two died of arson.

Officers suspect that the couple tried to warm themselves using a jiko, prompting the fire.

“We have experts handling the matter to establish how and why the fire started,” said Kiambu police boss Michael Muchiri.

Their bodies were moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man was found dead on his bed in Lungalunga slums in Nairobi county.

Anthony Gicheru's wife told the police that they went to bed on Monday night but Gicheru failed to wake up the following day.

Police said Gicheru did not have any visible injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem and other investigations.
