The county government of Lamu has inked a deal with the Kenya Medical Training College KMTC to boost the training of medics in the region.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy sealed the groundbreaking partnership on Thursday, which marked a significant milestone for healthcare in the region.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signalling a commitment to bolstering medical education and healthcare services in Lamu County.
Under the terms of the agreement, KMTC pledges to collaborate closely with the County government of Lamu to address healthcare challenges and enhance the quality of medical services available to residents.
The partnership seeks to bring about various benefits, including expanding medical training programs, recruiting skilled healthcare professionals and establishing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities across the county.
Lamu has one medical training college-KMTC situated in the mainland area in Mokowe.
The college has been in operation since 2016.
Speaking during the event, Timamy expressed his optimism about the partnership, emphasizing its potential to transform the general healthcare landscape in Lamu County.
“This MoU signifies our dedication to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring access to quality medical services for all residents. By working with KMTC, we aim to empower our healthcare workforce and elevate the standard of care available in our communities,” said Timamy.
The collaboration is also poised to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the region while equipping medical institutions with the necessary resources and expertise to meet the healthcare needs of the population.
The KMTC Chief Executive Officer, Kelly Oluoch commended Governor Timamy for his visionary leadership and commitment to advancing healthcare in Lamu County.
“We are pleased to partner with the County government of Lamu in this noble endeavour. Together, we will work tirelessly to strengthen the healthcare system, improve medical education and ultimately enhance the health and well-being of the people of Lamu,” said Oluoch.
The signing of the MoU between the County government of Lamu and KMTC heralds a new era of collaboration and innovation in healthcare delivery, setting the stage for transformative developments that will benefit generations to come.
Also present during the deal signing were KMTC Board members led by the chairperson Mr Joseah Kiplangat Cheruiyot, Lamu County Health Executive, Mbarak Bahjaj, among others.
